Description: Surface flake from the left edge of what may have once been an agricultural record and/or an account of grain. It seems to have belonged to a large tablet with 2 or 3 columns on each side. Only 2-3 signs belonging to the beginning of three lines are preserved, plus some faint traces belonging to other lines. The flake might come from the reverse of the tablet, in which case the preserved signs would have belonged to the final column. The lines seem to record large quantities of a commodity measured according to the capacity system -- probably barley. THe second preserved line reads "ma-da" which could mean "the territory of..."' Based on the sign forms the fragment dates to the Ur III period. Its provenience is unknown; Umma is the most likely possibility, but other sites are possible as well.
